Balzan, Tarxien in direct clash

Balzan and Tarxien Rainbows will be all out for the three points on Sunday as the two teams cross swords in one of the two matches in programme at the Hibernians Stadium.

The Rainbows are currently sixth on twenty-four points, five ahead of eighth-placed Balzan with Floriana lying seventh on twenty points.

Tarxien defeated Hamrun 4-1 last week and apart from moving back in fourth place, a win would put leave Floriana and Balzan five and six points respectively away from the team in sixth place.

Balzan need to improve considerably after a most disappointing performance in the 1-3 defeat to Floriana – their first defeat after eight positive results.

Brazilian midfielder Pedro dos Santos Calcado is suspended for Balzan while Carlo Mamo and Karl Pulo are injured for Tarxien.

In the first round, Tarxien defeated Balzan 2-1.

Meanwhile in the second match, Valletta should obtain the maximum points as they take on Melita in order to move back on top the BOV Premier League table.

The Citizens defeated Qormi 2-0 in their last outing and another win on Sunday would put them one point ahead of Hibernians and three ahead of Birkirkara.

Melita lost four of the last six matches and are still second from bottom. They are coming from a 1-5 defeat to Hibernians.

Two new Spanish players are set to make their debut for the Amateurs, namely goalkeeper Guillermo Gabilondo and striker Daniel Cabanillas. Karl Vella Petroni will be back after serving a one-match ban but Nigel Rizzo and Matthew Borg are both suspended. Valletta, on the other hand, will be lacking Roderick Briffa, Jonathan Caruana and Steve Borg.

In the first round, Valletta defeated Melita 5-1.
