Friendly match for Under-21 side

The Malta Under-21 national team will be hosting Italian side ASD Vigor Mellis in a warm-up friendly match on Tuesday at the MFA Training Grounds, Ta’ Qali, kick-off at 18:30.

The match should be one of other build-up outings in view of coach Ray Farrugia’s UEFA European Championship qualifiers later on this season. It is also an occasion for him to draft new faces selected from no fewer than ten top and lower division teams, as well as a player currently on the books of an English club.

The friendly will certainly serve as an occasion for Farrugia and his assistant, Ronald Vella, to scrutinise as many players as possible from his 23-strong squad, some of whom will be making their debut at international level.

Besides several substitutions, tactical permutations are also envisaged, all aimed at presenting the coach with several playing options.

The Under-21 squad is made up of:
goalkeepers Andrea Cassar (Hamrun), Yenz Cini (Valletta), Jean Matthias Vella (Vittoriosa);
defenders Sacha Borg (Floriana), Ryan Camenzuli (Birkirkara), Louis John Cutajar (Norwich United), Christian Grech (Pietà), Zach Muscat (Birkirkara), Ryan Sammut (Tarxien), Matthew Tabone (Vittoriosa);
midfielders Terence Agius (Pietà), Ayrton Azzopardi (Hibs), Johann Bezzina (Hibs), Clyde Borg (Floriana), Brooke Farrugia (Floriana), Bjorn Kristensen (Hibs), Brandon Muscat (Hibs), Ryan Scicluna (Birkirkara), Peter Xuereb (San Gwann), Daniel Zerafa (Hamrun);
forwards Daren Falzon (Naxxar), Jean Paul Farrugia (Vittoriosa), Lydon Micallef (Vittoriosa).
