Tarxien, Mosta seek wins to secure top-six finish

Tarxien Rainbows and Mosta will be aiming for three points in order to secure a place in the Championship Pool as they will be in action on Monday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

The two teams are currently joint-fourth, five points ahead of Balzan with two games to go for the end of the first phase.

In the first game, the Rainbows will be hoping to return to winning ways as they take on Melita. Tarxien lost 1-2 to Qormi last week but know that a win over the Amateurs would enable them to secure a top-six finish.

Melita, on the other hand, held Floriana in a goalless draw last week and hope to collect more precious points in their bid to avoid relegation.

Julian Galea and Nigel Rizzo are injured for the Amateurs. On the other hand, Gianluca Calabretta is set to make his debut for Tarxien after joining the club on loan from Hamrun. Steve Bonnici and Orosco Anonam are ruled out through suspension.

In the first round, Tarxien defeated Melita 2-0.

Meanwhile in the second match, Mosta face Qormi.

Seven points separate the two teams with Qormi lying in seventh place on 24 points. Although they lie – seven points behind Mosta, Tarxien and Sliema, mathematically Qormi still stand a chance of playing in the Championship Pool, should they win the remaining three matches.

After defeating Tarxien 2-1 in their last outing, Jesmond Zerafa’s side eliminated Birkirkara from the U*BET FA Trophy, defeating Birkirkara 2-1.

The Blues are coming from a humiliating 1-7 defeat to Birkirakra and the absence of Alex Cini, Jonathan Bajada, Steve Bezzina and Obinna Obiefule makes things more difficult. However Kurt Magro and possibly Fabio Vignaroli should make their debut.

In the first round, Mosta defeated Qormi 4-2.
