The Paolites lacked Zoran Levnajic but Allan Kardeck dos Santos was back in squad after being released a few weeks ago. Tarxien, on the other hand, lacked Branislav Timotic.

Hibernians managed to take the lead on the 7th minute when off a Clayton Failla cross, the ball reached Rodolfo Soares whose first-time effort gave goalkeeper David Cassar no chance.

Two minutes later, Tarxien replied with a Leandro da Silva Almeida effort ending high. Following a clearance by goalkeeper Mario Muscat who had rushed to the edge of the area, Daniel Mariano Bueno tried to surprise him from midfield but his attempt missed the target on the 18th.

Tarxien were reduced to ten men on the 31st minute after Andrezinho picked a second yellow card in two minutes.

A freekick by Jackson Lima ended just wide on 32 minutes. Jean Paul Farrugia concluded a good move with a close-range shot which was neutralised by Cassar on the 40th.

Eleven minutes in the second half, Marcelo Dias headed just over the bar off a cross by Failla from the left. Four minutes later, Cassar managed to turn into a corner a Jackson Lima effort from another corner.

Tarxien were awarded a penalty on the 65th minute when Leandro Almeida was brought down inside the area by Ryan Camilleri. However from the penalty spot, Mark Tanti’s effort hit the upright.

Substitute Allan Kardeck dos Santos hit the woodwork, following a cross by Cohen from the right, just a few seconds after replacing Jackson Lima.

Hibernians sealed the issue with the second goal on the 77th minute when off a Clayton Failla corner from the right, Jean Paul Farrugia headed the ball home from close range.

The Paolites scored a third goal on the 82nd when David Cassar rushed of the area but failed to clear the ball and Clayton Failla had the easiest of jobs in placing the ball at the back of the net.

Clayton Failla was voted BOV Player of the Match.

mosta-valletta13-223pzcMeanwhile champions Valletta kept the pace with Hibernians as they registered a comfortable 5-0 win over Mosta courtesy of William Barbosa and Michael Mifsud who scored two and three goals respectively.

For new Mosta coach Danilo Doncic, this was a disappointing start as he failed to bring the Blues’ disappointing run to an end after they lost four of the previous five matches.

Valletta took the lead on the 14th minute when off an assist by Roderick Briffa, William Barbosa beat goalkeeper Jeffrey Farrugia with a powerful drive from outside the area.

A freekick by Ryan Fenech for Valletta ended just wide on the 17th minute.

Three minutes later, Valletta doubled the score through Michael Mifsud who headed the ball home off a cross by Demba Toure from the right.

Michael Mifsud made it 3-0 one minute in the second half with a diagonal shot from the left.

William Barbosa concluded a solo effort with a rising shot from a close angle which beat Jeffrey Farrugia on 76 minutes to put the Citizens four goals ahead.

Two minutes later, Farrugia performed a great save on a fine Michael Mifsud effort when served by Toure.

One minute from time, Michael Mifsud completed a hat-trick after he received a pass by Roderick Briffa from the right and beat the Mosta goalkeeper with a low shot.
