BOV Women's Division 1: First phase comes to an end

BOV-Women-First-Division-12-13Mosta, Birkirkara, Hibernians and Gozo will be playing in the Championship Pool while Mgarr United, Pembroke Athleta, Tarxien Rainbows and Hamrun Spartans will play in the Relegation Pool as the second phase of the BOV Women’s First Division gets underway next week.

The first phase came to an end with the last seven matches which were played between Friday and Tuesday.

At the Sirens Stadium on Friday, Hibernians and leaders Mosta shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

The two teams missed several goal-scoring opportunities during the first half but seven minutes in the second half, Hibernians managed to break the deadlock through Corissa Vella White. Hibs could have increased the lead but five minutes from time, Mosta notched the equaliser thanks to Jade Flask.

Mgarr United defeated Pembroke Athleta 3-0 at the Zebbug Ground.

Alice Stanton put Mgarr ahead on the 10th minute. Pembroke tried to equalise but Mgarr goalkeeper Ruth Debono performed some fine saves to keep them at bay. Stanton doubled the score twelve minutes in the second half and late in the game Claudette Xuereb sealed the issue with a third goal.

Tarxien Rainbows bounced back from the heavy defeat to Hibernians as they registered their first win, beating Hamrun Spartans 4-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium

Diane Bonello put the Rainbows ahead on 42 minutes and eleven minutes in the second half, Kim Magro doubled the score. Magro scored another on 78 minutes and five minutes later, Kristine Camilleri sealed the issue with a fourth goal.

On Tuesday, Gozo secured a place in the Championship Pool as they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 3-0 at the Tarxien Ground.

The Gozitans managed to go two goals ahead by the end of the first half, adding another after the break.

Hibernians struggled much more than expected to defeat Mgarr United 1-0 at the Mgarr Ground.

The team led by Ray Vella kept the Paolites under control for long stretches. However nine minutes from time, it was substitute Nicole Borg who scored the all-important goal for Hibernians.

Leaders Mosta defeated Hamrun Spartans 6-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium.

The Blues managed to go two goals ahead in the first five minutes, adding another just before the break. Hamrun pulled one back five minutes in the second half but Mosta scored another three goals to register a comfortable win.

Champions Birkirkara defeated Pembroke Athleta 7-0 at the Pembroke Ground.

Kim Parnis put the Stripes ahead on the 12th minute and Stephania Farrugia doubled the score on the 21st. Parnis made it 3-0 on 36 minutes. Pembroke had their fair share of scoring opportunities but failed to reduce the gap. Six minutes in the second half, Simone Buttigieg made it 4-0 and seven minutes later, Gabriella Zahra added another. Raina Giusti scored the sixth goal on 73 minutes and three minutes from time, Kim Simler sealed the issue with a seventh goal.

Meanwhile in a match from the BOV Women’s Second Division, Vittoriosa Stars beat Lija / Iklin 4-1 at the Tarxien Ground.

Ironically Morgan Carabott put Lija / Iklin ahead after just one minute after taking advantage of a defensive blunder. However Vittoriosa took just six minutes to equalise through Gabriella Attard. The same player put the Stars ahead on 22 minutes and scored a third goal on the 67th. Kylie Monaco scored a fourth goal for Vittoriosa five minutes later.
