FIFA Women's World Cup: Malta hits six past Luxembourg

women-malta-luxembourg130406The Malta women’s national team registered an impressive 6-0 win over Luxembourg in another match from Group 1 of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Preliminary Round mini-tournament at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

It was Ylenia Carabott who put Malta ahead on the 12th minute. The locals doubled the score on the 25th minute after Dick floored Dorianne Theuma inside the area. From the penalty spot, Theuma made no mistake. Ylenia Cuschieri made it 3-0 on the 28th minute and Nicole Buttigieg added another one minute later.

Five minutes in the second half, Buttigieg scored Malta’s fifth goal. Dorianne Theuma sealed the issue with the sixth goal on 61 minutes.

Malta now leads the way on six points together with Albania but with a better goal-difference.

women-albania-latvia130406daMeanwhile in the first match, Albania defeated Latvia 2-0. Dafina Memedov put the Albanians ahead on 17 minutes and Furtuna Velaj doubled the score four minutes from the end of the first half.

The tournament comes to an end on Tuesday with the final two matches at the Centenary Stadium. Luxembourg face Albania at 16:00 while Malta hosts Latvia at 18:30.
