Hibs close in on leaders as Mosta, B'Kara share spoils in top-of-the-table clash

BOV-Women-First-Division-12-13Hibernians moved to just one point behind joint-leaders Birkirkara and Mosta as the latter two shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in this week’s big match at the Luxol Stadium on Tuesday.

The Stripes took the lead after just eight minutes through Rachael Cuschieri but the Blues’ reaction was immediate and they levelled matters four minutes later with a goal by Jade Flask. Twelve minutes in the second half, Mosta took the lead through Dorianne Theuma but two minutes from time, Kelly Agius Pace notched the equaliser.

In a match from the Championship Pool on Sunday, Hibernians defeated Gozo 4-0 at the Sannat Ground.

Ylenia Carabott and Ruth Steer Chetham scored two goals each to hand the Paolites the three points. Carabott’s first goal was her 200th goal for Hibernians

In a match from the Relegation Pool, Mgarr United defeated Hamrun Spartans 2-1 at the Mgarr Ground.

Although Mgarr held the initiative right from the start, Hamrun managed to take the lead thanks to a long-distance shot by Amanda Atkins after just four minutes. Daniela Ebejer levelled matters on the 22nd minute and former Hamrun player Claudette Xuereb notched the winner for Mgarr eleven minutes in the second half.

In another match, Tarxien Rainbows held Pembroke Athleta in a 1-1 draw at the Tarxien Ground.

Pembroke were the better side throughout the ninety minutes, taking the lead thanks to Thresa Scicluna on 61 minutes. However Francesca Cauchi notched the equaliser on the 90th to earn a point for Tarxien.

BOV-Women-Second-Division-12-13Raiders (Luxol) kept marching on in the BOV Women’s Second Division after defeating Fgura United 3-1 at the Fgura Ground.

Following a goalless first half, Raiders managed to break the deadlock on the 49th thanks to Rodianne Zerafa. Two minutes later, Rodianne Borg doubled the score. Fgura pulled one back on 53 minutes but Rodianne Zerafa scored again for Fgura on the 79th to seal the issue.

Kirkop United came back from one goal down to beat St. Venera Yellow Blues 2-1 at the Zebbug Ground.

Orianne Cassar put the Saints ahead thanks to a direct freekick seven minutes from the end of the first half. After the break, Kirkop showed greater determination and levelled matters through Emma Moore on the 73rd. Ten minutes later, Emma Moore was on target again to put Kirkop 2-1 ahead. Yanika Debono was unlucky to hit the crossbar for St. Venera on the 90th and therefore Kirkop took the three points home.
