MFA supports Puttinu Cares Marathon

Puttinu2013-Roderick-BriffaThe Malta Football Association backed the 60-hour Football Marathon in aid of Puttinu Cares Foundation which was held between Friday and Sunday.

The event started off with short speeches by the President of the Republic and Minister of Health, followed by the presentation of a football signed by the national team players from Roderick Briffa to the president as a donation for the Puttinu Cares Fund.

The activity on the field of play was kick-started by Dr George Abela himself as our men’s and women’s national teams played a highly-entertaining friendly match. The spirit of camaraderie prevailed as the women battled against the males.

The class of the men’s team in relation to that of their opponents was evident. However, the males’ cantering stance allowed the girls to get into a smooth stride with a series of inter-passing.

Puttinu2013-Natasha-PaceIt was altogether a pleasant match which the crowd evidently enjoyed.

Daniel Bogdanovic, present for the match, had nothing but praise for the women’s team. ‘It was a most enjoyable occasion. I sometimes watch our U-16 girls in training and I think they’ve really got a good future. The football played today was football in its most enjoyable form.’

The event lasted till Sunday 5th May, and the proceeds formed part of the €1,351,921 collected for Puttinu Cares.
