Euro Cup will be played as friendly tournament

Euro-Challenge-CupThe Malta Football Association will continue to organise the Euro Cup – the tournament reserved for clubs representing Malta in UEFA competitions – but this will no longer be considered as an official competition. This was confirmed during a meeting of the Council of the Malta Football Association on Friday.

The Executive Committee decided that the Euro Cup will be played as a friendly tournament – similar to other pre-season tournaments which are organised by clubs in summer – in order to allow for more flexibility especially with regards to the use of foreign players.

The Euro Cup, this season featuring Birkirkara, Hibernians, Sliema Wanderers and Valletta, is expected to be held late in June.

Meanwhile the competitions to be organised by the Malta Football Association next season will be therefore the BOV Premier League, BOV First Division League, BOV Second Division League, BOV Third Division League; U*BET FA Trophy; BOV Super Cup; Youth League Sections A, B, C, D and E; Youth Knock-Out Competition; BOV Women’s First Division League and BOV Women’s Second Division League; Women’s Knock-Out Competition; Women’s Super Cup; Women Under-16 League and Women Under-16 Knock-Out Competition.
