National team prepares for World Cup qualifier

malta-armenia120907Now that the season is almost over, most national team players are out of competitive action for their respective club teams. However, the focus now turns to keeping them in trim in view of their respective national teams’ commitments later on this year. The players involved are those in the senior squad, the Under-21 and the Under-19 teams.

Pietro Ghedin’s national ‘A’ team will be engaged in two friendly matches over the next few days in what should be preparatory outings prior to their next Euro Championship match against Armenia away on 7 June.

The first match to be played at the Ta’ Qali training grounds on Friday 24th May at 17:00 will be against the Under-19 team guided by Branko Nisevic. The latter’s squad will be having a useful work-out before the onset of the summer months and this in view of the Euro Championship U-19 mini tournament which is being played in September when the Maltese lads will be meeting Russia, Ukraine and Estonia.

In the other match to be played on Wednesday 29th May at 18:30, the senior side will face Ray Farrugia’s Under-21 team who themselves have engagements against Poland in June followed by matches against Turkey and Greece in September, all valid for the Euro Championship of this category.
