Football Federation of Armenia President Ruben Hayrapetyan strongly rejected rumours suggesting the result of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Armenia and Malta, played last Friday in Yerevan, was fixed.

“I’m ready to resign, should people demand my resignation. I suggest the accusers meet me personally and discuss the issues of concern. I saw some posts in social networks suggesting I was the one to pick the lineup for a game vs. Malta and that I fixed the match. If I can harm Armenian football in any way, let those people tell me so personally,” Hayrapetryan told a news conference and reported on PanARMENIAN.net.

A goal by Michael Mifsud early in the game gave Malta the first away win in a competitive match in twenty years. Before this game, Armenia had lost three matches, claiming their only points in a win over Malta at Ta’ Qali. However last Tuesday, they bounced back from the defeat to Malta with a 4-0 win over Denmark in Copenhagen.
