Euro Cup: Wanderers turn defeat into victory

Euro-Challenge-CupThe Euro Cup friendly tournament kicked-off on Monday as Sliema Wanderers came back from one goal down to beat champions Birkirkara 3-1.

Senegalese striker Pape Gueye put the Stripes ahead seven minutes from the end of the first half but the Blues turned the score in their favour after the break thanks to Mark Scerri twenty minutes in the second half. Five minutes later, Ariel Laudisi made it 2-1. The Argentinian striker sealed the issue with another goal five minutes from time.

New faces in the Sliema squad included Trevor Cilia who is back from a loan spell with Floriana and Italian striker Andrea Navarra. Birkirkara, on the other hand, had three African players Kevin Bondundi, Sekhana Koko and Pape Gueye.

On Tuesday, Hibernians take on Valletta at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 20:00.
