Tommaso Volpi appointed new Qormi coach

Qormi FCQormi FC appointed Italian coach Tommaso Volpi as their new coach, possibly leading former coach Jesmond Zerafa to take a new role at Valletta FC.

Volpi seemed set to be appointed as coach of First Division side Gudja United after sports agency Solo Football, led by his wife Angela Perez, announced it was taking over the club. However discussions between the Italian coach and other clubs continued and he has now signed with Qormi.

He spent most of his coaching career in the Serie D and teams he managed include Montevarchi, Viterbese, Flaminia Civita Castellana, Anagni, Alatri, Morro D’Oro, Orvietana and Pro Cavese.

Qormi started last season under coach Stephen Azzopardi but with the departure of the latter, destination Floriana in October, Jesmond Zerafa was appointed as coach. Zerafa led the team to the final of the U*BET FA Trophy where they lost 1-3 to Hibernians.

The decision not to confirm Zerafa could lead him to return to Valletta, although not in the same role, just one year after being replaced by Mark Miller. Zerafa led the Citizens to two consecutive championships in 2010/11 and 2011/12.

With Miller still under contract as coach, Jesmond Zerafa could take the role of technical director.
