Silvio Vella, Wayne Attard join MFA technical staff

Two former national team players, Silvio Vella and Wayne Attard, have been appointed as coaches within the MFA Technical Centre led by MFA Technical Director Robert Gatt.

Silvio Vella will be serving as national team assistant coach with national coach Pietro Ghedin. On the other hand, Wayne Attard will for the time being serve as assistant coach of the Under-16 national team and will eventually be appointed assistant coach of the Under-19 national team.

In a statement, the MFA wished Vella and Attard success and thanked Branko Nisevic, Joseph Mansueto and Edward Bartolo who are no longer part of the MFA technical staff for the work done.

Silvio Vella, a former Malta Under-19 national coach, coached Rabat Ajax for the past three years, leading them to consecutive promotions from the Second Division to the Premier League, retaining their status at the end of last season.

Wayne Attard, on the other hand, led St. Andrews to promotion from Division 2 to Division 1 where they have been playing for the past three years.

Rabat have now replaced Silvio Vella with Steve D’Amato while St. Andrew’s have appointed William Barbosa as their new coach.
