Hamrun Spartans players, committee members to be charged with match-fixing attempt

MFAThe Malta Football Association announced that during a meeting of the MFA Executive Committee which was held on Monday, it was decided that three Hamrun Spartans players will be charged with regards to the alleged involvement in an attempt of match-fixing during season 2012/13.

The three players are Gianluca Calabretta, Roderick Fenech and Massimo Grima. Elton Borg and Julian Friggieri, who served as committee members during season 2012/13, will also be charged with the attempt to bribe players.

Hamrun Spartans will also be charged since Borg and Friggieri were members of the committee.

Gianluca Calabretta, Roderick Fenech and Massimo Grima, Elton Borg and Julian Friggieri have been suspended with immediate effect from all football activity until the competent MFA boards take their decisions.

The Spartans were relegated to the BOV First Division after ending second from bottom in the BOV Premier League at the end of last season.
