MFA Annual General Meeting to be held on Saturday

MFA-HeadquartersThe Annual General Meeting of the Malta Football Association 2012/13 will be held on Saturday at the Grand Hotel Excelsior with the main items on the agenda being the elections for President and the three Vice-Presidents of the association which are held every three years.

Running for the post of president apart from current president Norman Darmanin Demajo, is former MFA vice-president Dr Peter Fenech.

Three years ago, Darmanin Demajo was elected as president with 77 votes compared to the 31 obtained by the former president Dr Joe Mifsud.

Dr Fenech, on the other hand, failed to be elected to the post of vice-president, obtaining 52 votes compared to the 78, 77 and 67 votes obtained by Alex Manfre, Carmelo Bartolo and Ludovico Micallef.

Meanwhile there will be six candidates for the posts of three vice-presidents. Apart from senior vice-president Carmelo Bartolo and vice-presidents Ludovigo Micallef and Alex Manfre, there were three other nominations by MFA Head of Legal Department Dr Chris Bonnett, Futsal Malta Association president Donald Spiteri and Birkirkara FC committee member Peter Busuttil.

There is no need for an election for the post of treasurer as the only candidate is Deputy Treasurer Ivan Mizzi.

For the posts of ordinary members of the Executive Committee, the nominations are:
Premier League: Chris Grech (Mosta), Paul Spiteri (Valletta);
First Division: Tyrone Demanuele (Gzira), Joe Sammut (Pietà);
Second Division: Manuel Gauci (Zabbar), Albert Pace (Siggiewi);
Third Division: Ray Micallef (Attard), Paul Sammut (Santa Lucia);
Member Clubs in general: Victor Cassar (Hamrun), Michael Cutajar (St. George’s), Joe Farrugia (Marsa), Charles Scerri (Lija);
Member Associations: Lolly Aquilina (MFCA), Lino Bartolo (District Football Leagues);
Gozo FA: Alvin Grech
Youth FA: Joe Micallef

An election is necessary only for the ordinary members to represent Member Clubs in general as there are four candidates to fill two vacancies.

According to the statute of the association, the Officers of the Association, that is the President, the Vice-Presidents, the General Secretary and the Treasurer are not be entitled to vote in these elections.
Those eligible to vote are therefore:
(a) Council Members (except for the Officers of the association):

(i) fifty-three representatives of the Member Clubs
(ii) a number of representatives of the Member Associations as follows:

Two (2) representatives of the Gozo Football Association.
Two (2) representatives of the Inter Amateur Soccer Competition.
Two (2) representatives of the Malta Amateur Football Association.
Two (2) representatives of the Industries Soccer Association.
Two (2) representatives of the Employees Sports Association.
One (1) representative of the Hotels and Restaurants Sports Association.
Two (2) representatives of the District Football Association.
Two (2) representatives of The Youth Football Association.
Two (2) representatives of the Football Coaches Association.
Two (2) representatives of the Football Referees Association.
One (1) representative of the Gozo Youth Football Association.
Two (2) representatives from the Futsal Malta Association.
One (1) representative from the Malta Beach Soccer Association.

(b) The following number of delegates of Member Clubs and Member Associations:

(i) A delegate from each Member Club in the Premier League, the First Division, the Second Division and the Third Division.
(ii) A delegate from each Member Association (GFA, IASC, MAFA, ISA, ESA, HRSA, DFL, YFA, MFCA, MFRA, GYFA, FMA and MBSA).

Other items on the agenda include the approval of the Minutes of the last Annual General Meeting and the approval of the Minutes of the last Extraordinary General Meeting, the approval of the Report of Activities of the Association (Administrative Report) for the year 2012/2013 and the approval of the Audited Accounts and Balance Sheet of the Association (Financial Report) for the year 2012/2013.

UEFA vice-president and FIGC president Giancarlo Abete will be attending the meeting as UEFA representative.
