Balzan secured the services of Brazilian defender Rodrigo Pereira from Birkirkara. He signed a two-year deal.

Rodrigo, who played in Austria before moving to Malta joined the Stripes in summer 2011 and despite a good season with the club, he was released the following summer. However in November, he rejoined the club, signing a one-year deal. This time, he played an important role for the Stripes in their championship campaign.

This summer, Rodrigo was due to join a club in China but eventually returned back to Malta.

Balzan and Birkirkara had earlier reached an agreement over the loan of Andrew Scicluna. The Birkirkara player spent the last three years on loan with Mqabba.

Another player who was on the books of Birkirkara last season, Godwin Mckay, had also agreed to join Balzan this summer.
