Tricky test for champions Birkirkara

bov-premier-league-2013-2014Champions Birkirkara face a tricky test on Saturday as they take on Sliema Wanderers in one of the four BOV Premier League matches in programme. In the other match at the National Stadium, Qormi face Naxxar Lions.

Balzan meet Rabat Ajax while Floriana face Tarxien Rainbows in the two matches at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Qormi vs Naxxar Lions at the National Stadium, kick-off 18:30

After a disappointing 0-4 defeat to Sliema Wanderers, Qormi hope to collect their first point or points in a clash with newly-promoted side Naxxar Lions. Qormi need to improve considerably in order to get a positive result from this game, considering that in their first outing, Naxxar did quite well, earning a point in a 1-1 draw with Floriana.

Roderick Sammut returns for Qormi after serving a one-match ban while coach Tommaso Volpi could have new foreign players at his disposal.

Birkirkara vs Sliema Wanderers at the National Stadium, kick-off 20:30

Birkirkara and Sliema Wanderers both registered wins in their first outing with the Stripes defeating Rabat Ajax 2-1 and Sliema claiming an impressive 4-0 win over Qormi.

The Wanderers will aim at upsetting the Stripes in their bid to register a second consecutive win while Birkirkara, considered by many, to be the main favourites for the title, will be determined to take home another three points.

Birkirkara will have new signing Brazilian defender Matheus Bissi making his debut but Edward Herrera is ruled out through suspension. Abubakar Bello-Osagie should be available for selection for Sliema after missing the first game last week.

Balzan vs Rabat Ajax at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off 18:30

Balzan hope to collect the three points in the clash with Rabat Ajax. The team led by Riccardo Tumiatti rescued a point thanks to a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with newly-promoted Vittoriosa Stars. On the other hand, Rabat did quite well despite losing 1-2 to Birkirkara in their first outing and now aim for a positive result from this game.

Former Rabat Ajax striker Jose Luis Armario Negrin is set to make his first appearance for his new club Balzan after missing the last game due to a suspension. Captain Aaron Agius is suspended after being sent off last week. On the other hand, Rabat should have Spanish striker Moises Avila Perez making his debut after joining the club earlier this week. However Joseph Caruana and Adam Smeir are ruled out injured.

Floriana vs Tarxien Rainbows at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off 20:45

Floriana and Tarxien Rainbows will both seek their first win in the second game. The Greens were held in a 1-1 draw by Naxxar Lions while Tarxien were unlucky to lose the derby with Hibernians, suffering a goal deep into stoppage time.

For Tarxien, Serbian defender Marko Potezica is suspended.
