The Youth Academy has been launched only recently and its staff members include technical director Mario Mifsud, academy director Andrea Vella, academy manager Alan Pace and academy co-ordinator Jonathan Bartolo.
The Academy is taking a holistic approach on Player Development. It is not solely about development as a footballer, but most importantly, about teaching the kids certain values and life-skills, which are essential and fundamental for the individual’s growth and future on and off the pitch.
There are 3 phases of development at SUFC, the Academy:
1. Pre-Academy Phase (kids born 2005-2010)
2. Foundation Phase (kids born 2001-2004)
3. Youth Development Phase (kids born 1997-2000)
A unique opportunity at the club, at all levels, from the 4 year olds to the 16 year olds – every child will have, apart from the various football sessions, a fitness session once a week on motor skills, agility and strength with the team, and also a free season’s membership at the Spinach Fitness Club.
The Academy premises is the Santa Clare Primary School pitch in Pembroke. One may contact the Academy on andreavella@swieqiunitedfc.com or leave a message on the club’s Facebook page.
