BOV Division 2: Mqabba, Dingli Swallows suffer defeats

mskala-gharghur130915The two teams who were relegated from Division 1 last season had a disappointing start in the BOV Second Division as both suffered defeats.

Dingli Swallows lost 1-2 to Pembroke Athleta at the Luxol Stadium while Mqabba lost 2-4 to newly-promoted Senglea Athletic at the Sirens Ground.

At the Charles Abela Stadium, Gharghur defeated Marsaskala 4-1. Wayne Sciberras put Gharghur ahead on the 20th and Matthew Agius doubled the score just before half-time. Two minutes in the second half, Toraino Singleton pulled one back for the Southseasiders but Gharghur hit back with goals by Lydon Cilia on 77 and Wayne Sciberras on 88 minutes.

In another match at the same venue, Mdina Knights beat Kirkop United 2-0. Justin Buhagiar put the Knights ahead on the hour and Emilio Cornago San Pedro doubled the score on the 90th.

San Gwann registered a 3-2 win over Siggiewi in an entertaining clash at the Luxol Stadium. Jason Camilleri put Siggiewi ahead on 24 minutes and Shaun Vella levelled matters three minutes later. David Caruana made it 2-1 for San Gwann on the 28th but Mark Camilleri equalised on the 47th. Bruno Ferraz do Amaral secured victory for San Gwann with a goal on the 79th.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Fgura United defeated Mellieha 2-0 thanks to Josef Dalli on the 11th and Joseph Okonkwo on the 80th.
