Fgura United present new players

fguraSecond Division side Fgura United presented the squad for season 2013/14 during an event which was held at the club premises.

The club signed goalkeeper Brandon Bartolo on a permanent transfer from Zebbug Rangers after a successful loan spell with the club last season while Warren Bianco returns with the club after a year on loan with Kalkara. The other goalkeeper on the books of the club is Shaun Cardona.

Apart from veteran Robert Adami, Fgura signed John Debattista and Philip Chircop on a permanent transfer from Hamrun Spartans and Sta. Venera respectively. Both were on loan with the club last season. Other new signings include Jonathan Bugeja and Quincy Bregman who played for St. George’s and Hibs player Rene Duca who played for Birzebbuga St. Peter’s.

In midfield, Glenn Micallef joins the club on loan from St. Venera, together with former Mqabba midfielder Iro Curmi, James Shead of Tarxien Rainbows, Darren Attard from Marsaxlokk and Christian Vella from Gharghur. Matthew Spiteri and promising youngsters Nicholas Fenech and Lydon Vella stay with the club.

Apart from Josef Dalli, Fgura United signed two Nigerian strikers Joseph Okonkwo and Abeeb Abiodun Williams. Both played for Mqabba but the latter was on loan from Fgura. Okonkwo had earlier played for Dingli Swallows, Valletta and Floriana.

President Lawrence Bugeja said that after establishing itself in Division 2, the club’s objective is to stay competitive and try to do better than last season. Together with team manager Anthony Gafa’ and the new coaching staff, the club worked hard to strengthen the squad. The coaching staff is made up of Ramon Zammit, Herman Bugeja and Mark Vella, who helped St. George’s secure promotion to Division 1 last season.
