Ghedin names provisional squad ahead of final World Cup qualifiers

malta-bulgaria130910National coach Pietro Ghedin named the provisional squad ahead of the final two 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Denmark. Malta hosts the Czech Republic on Friday 11 before travelling to Copenhagen for the final clash against Denmark.

Out of the players who were included in the provisional squad, Andre Schembri is only available for the trip to Denmark as he is ruled out of the Czech Republic clash due to a one-match ban.

Goalkeeper Andrew Hogg, who is currently on the books of Greek Super League side AEL Kallonis, was not included in the squad.

Captain Michael Mifsud, who has now joined Melbourne Heart in Australia, is expected to make his hundredth appearance for the national team in the game against the Czech Republic.

The squad is made up of:
goalkeepers Justin Haber (Birkirkara), Henry Bonello and Glenn Zammit (Sliema), Nicky Vella (Tarxien);
defenders Andrei Agius (Torres – ITA), Ryan Camilleri and Clayton Failla (Hibs), Alex Muscat, Clifford Gatt Baldacchino and Jacob Borg (Sliema), Luke Dimech and Jonathan Caruana (Valletta), Justin Grioli (Balzan);
midfielders Roderick Briffa, Shaun Bajada and Ryan Fenech (Valletta), Mark Scerri and John Mintoff (Sliema), Edward Herrera, Gareth Sciberras, Rowen Muscat and Paul Fenech (Birkirkara);
forwards Andrew Cohen (Hibs), Daniel Bogdanovic (Floriana), Terence Vella (Birkirkara), Michael Mifsud (Melbourne Hearts – AUS), Andre Schembri (Omonia Nicosia – CYP).
