Clayton Cini Memorial Cup launched

clayton-cini-memorialFirst Division side Zebbug Rangers will be facing Valletta in the Clayton Cini Memorial Cup which will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Thursday, kick-off at 19:30. Funds generated from this game will go towards Puttinu Cares.

Addressing a press conference at Bistro 516, Valletta Waterfront on Monday, Zebbug Rangers vice-president Angelo Bantick said that the committee, together with the family of Clayton Cini, a former Zebbug Rangers player who passed away a few weeks ago, wanted to organise this game to remember Clayton while generating funds for Puttinu Cares. He thanked Valletta for accepting the club’s invitation and Rennie Zerafa, on behalf of Puttinu Cares, for their huge contribution towards the society.

Valletta vice-president Paul Spiteri said the club was at the forefront when supporting such initiatives and was confident Valletta supporters will support this initiative by attending. He also thanked Puttinu Cares for the big support they give to those who seek their help.

Rennie Zerafa thanked the two clubs for this initiative and said sports was one of the means which could contribute to the organisation. He mentioned the fact that Clayton Cini and his family made use of the apartments Puttinu Cares has in Sutton and said that such investment by Puttinu Cares was only possible with the donations of the Maltese and Gozitans.

Zebbug Rangers coach Jesmond Zammit and Valletta team-managers Gerald Ellul said that apart from the importance of this event, this game was also of benefit for the two clubs since both the BOV Premier League and the BOV First Division would have a one-week break due to the national team’s commitments.

The event on Thursday kicks-off with a game between friends of Clayton Cini and matches between the various age groups from the two nurseries. A feature about Clayton will be presented before the game which will kick-off at 19:30. Tickets cost €5 for adults and €1 for children.
