BOV Women's League: Third wins for Birkirkara, Gozo

bov-women-first-division-2013-2014Champions Birkirkara and Gozo registered their third win in the BOV Women’s First Division while Mgarr United collected their first three points. On the other hand, Tarxien Rainbows are the only team with maximum points as they won the third game in as many matches.

Gozo defeated Kirkop United 4-1 at the Kercem Ground on Sunday.

The Gozitans dominated right from the start but ironically Kirkop managed to take the lead thanks to a goal by Shona Zammit. However the Gozitans were quick to level matters, taking the lead early in the second half. Two late goals enabled them to secure the three points. Joselene Gafa scored twice for the Gozitans with Nikki Buttigieg and Julia Vella scoring the other two goals.

On Tuesday, Mgarr United beat Pembroke Athleta 4-1 at the Mgarr Ground.

Mgarr were the better side but they had to wait until eight minutes in the second half to break the deadlock as goalkeeper Baldacchino performed some fine saves for Pembroke. Natasha Pace put Mgarr ahead on 53 minutes and Abigail Camilleri doubled the score on the 66th. Leanne Micallef pulled one back for Pembroke on the 78th but quick goals by Alice Stanton and Rebecca D’Agostino on the 81st and 82nd sealed the issue.

Birkirkara found no difficulty in beating Raiders (Luxol) 8-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium

The Stripes took the lead thanks to a goal by Kim Parnis on the 12th minute. Raiders levelled matters through Rodianne Zerafa on the 21st but by the end of the first half, Birkirkara scored three to go 4-1 ahead courtesy of Alishia Sultana and a Kim Parnis brace. In the second half, Rachel Cuschieri scored three with Alishia Sultana scoring another.

bov-women-second-division-2013-2014In the BOV Women’s Second Division, leaders Tarxien Rainbows collected another three points in a comfortable 10-0 win over Lija/Iklin at the Zebbug Ground.

Tarxien took the lead after just two minutes through Kristine Camilleri and doubled the score through Francesca Cauchi on the 17th. Kim Magro made it 3-0 on 37 minutes. After the break, the Rainbows dominated to score seven without reply.

Fgura United claimed their first three points in a 2-1 win over Hamrun Spartans at the Fgura Ground.

Hamrun held the initiative early in the game, taking the lead on 36 minutes when a first shot was blocked by the Fgura goalkeeper and off the rebound, Brenda Borg placed the ball at the back of the net. Fgura showed greater determination after the break and Ingrid Vassallo levelled matters on 71 minutes. Three players were sent off – two for Hamrun and one for Fgura. The latter took full advantage and notched the winner thanks to Ingrid Vassallo five minutes from time.
