BOV Women's Division 1: Hibernians beat champions Birkirkara

bov-women-first-division-2013-2014Hibernians maintained their perfect start with a 2-0 win over champions Birkirkara in a match from the BOV Women’s First Division at the Luxol Stadium on Tuesday.

The Paolites, who had already defeated the Stripes in the Super Cup, now have maximum points from three matches.

Birkirkara held the initiative but Hibernians created the better chances, taking the lead on the 20th minute when Dorianne Theuma beat Janice Xuereb with a curved shot from the edge of the area. Four minutes from the end of the first half, Francesca Chircop, served by AnnMarie Muscat, lobbed the ball over the Birkirkara goalkeeper to double the score.

Thirteen minutes from time, Birkirkara went close to reducing the gap but Hibs goalie Keoney Demicoli performed a great save on Kim Parnis.

Gozo lead the way with 12 points after a fourth successive win, beating Raiders (Luxol) 6-2 at the Luxol Stadium.

Joselene Gafa, Nicole Buttigieg and Chantelle Grech scored two goals each with Raiders’ two goals being scored by Rodianne Zerafa.

Mgarr United collected another three points in a 2-0 win over Kirkop United at the Zebbug Ground.

Mgarr took the lead on the 18th through Debbie Pisani and six minutes later, Daniela Ebejer doubled the score. Kirkop showed greater determination during the second half but failed to score any goals to reduce the score.

bov-women-second-division-2013-2014In the BOV Women’s Second Division, Hamrun Spartans registered a 5-0 win over Vittoriosa Stars at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Daniela Farrugia put the Spartans ahead on 41 minutes. Amanda Muscat doubled the score on the 58th and seven minutes later, Zuleika Azzopardi made it 3-0. Muscat added another goal on the 72nd and Orianne Cassar sealed the issue with a fifth goal ten minutes from time.

In another match, Fgura United had to wait for the second half to score the goals and beat Lija/Iklin 3-0 at the Fgura Ground.

After a goalless first half, Ingrid Vassallo put Fgura ahead six minutes in the second half when she received a pass by Juste and anticipated the goalkeeper. Six minutes later, following a short clearance by the goalkeeper, Shana Debono took the loose ball and lobbed the ball into the empty net. Fgura sealed the issue with another goal by Ingrid Vassallo one minute from time.
