Floriana test for Birkirkara

floriana-bkara121215Birkirkara will be all out to claim the three points on Sunday as they take on Floriana in one of the two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

The Stripes are currently third on 20 points, four behind second-placed Valletta and with a win on Sunday, they would move to just one point behind the Citizens and three behind leaders Hibernians.

In their last two outings, the Stripes registered two narrow wins over Naxxar Lions and Tarxien Rainbows.

Floriana, on the other hand, earned a point in a 2-2 draw with leaders Hibernians in their last outing and now eye a positive result in their bid to climb out of the danger zone. They are currently second from bottom on six points but a win would put them in seventh place.

Coach Ian Dawes could not count on the suspended Emmanuel Ibok Edet and Gary Roberts. For Birkirkara, Gareth Sciberras is ruled out injured.

Meanwhile the first match is the clash between the two teams who were promoted from Division 1 last season – Naxxar Lions and Vittoriosa Stars.

Both teams did well so far with Naxxar currently sixth on thirteen points and Vittoriosa joint-seventh on eight points. Last week, the Lions defeated Balzan 3-0 while the Stars lost 0-2 to Sliema.

Louis Cutajar, Andrew Decesare, Andre Rocha da Silva and Terence Scerri are recovering from injuries for Naxxar. Gilbert Martin and Roberto Brincat are ruled out injured for Vittoriosa.
