Nadur Youngsters rescue a point thanks to stoppage-time goal

Gozo-Football-AssociationLeaders Nadur Youngsters dropped their first points in the Melita First Division in Gozo after being held in a 1-1 draw by Xewkija Tigers on Sunday with the leaders.

Dene Shields put the Tigers ahead on 23 minutes and could have added another three minutes in the second half but the Scottish striker hit the upright from a penalty. To make matters worse for Nadur, Frankie Camilleri was sent off but six minutes in added time, Charles Mercieca notched the equaliser.

SK Victoria Wanderers joined Xewkija in second place thanks to a 6-1 win over Munxar Falcons.

Joseph Vella put the Wanderers ahead after just two minutes with Darren Farrugia equalising on the 22nd. However four minutes from the end of the first half, Peter Anizoba restored the lead. Four minutes in the second half, Ejofor Nkwocha made it 3-1, Peter Anizoba 4-1 on the 67th, Ejofor Nkwocha 5-1 on the 71st with Joel Xuereb sealing the issue with a sixth goal on the 78th.

One week after eliminating them from the U*BET FA Trophy, Victoria Hotspurs met once again neighbours Oratory Youths, this time beating them 2-0 thanks to goals by David Camilleri four minutes in the second half and Michael Bezzina on 67 minutes.

Kercem Ajax, on the other hand, defeated Xaghra United 4-0. Keith Bonello put Kercem ahead on the 10th, John Camilleri doubled the score on the 17th and Jean Paul Mizzi made it 3-0 on the 36th. Joseph Chetcuti had a penalty saved on 67 minutes but John Camilleri scored a fourth goal four minutes later.

Meanwhile Ghajnsielem are the new leaders of the Melita Second Division after defeating Qala Saints 5-4 in a highly-entertaining clash.

Alan Cini and Michael Mumford put Qala two goals ahead within the first eighteen minutes. Matthew Portelli reduced the gap eight minutes in the second half and Damon Hili levelled matters four minutes later. Alan Cini put Qala 3-2 ahead on 65 minutes but Matthew Portelli and Charlon Tabone scored twice on the 79th and 81st to put the Blacks ahead for the first time. A goal by Frank Attard restored equilibrium seven minutes from time. However the game was not over yet and one minute in added time, Charlon Tabone notched the winner for Ghajnsielem.

Sannat Lions move second thanks to a 3-1 win over Gharb Rangers. Fernando de Andrade was the hero for Naxxar with goals on 36, 64 and 66 minutes with Sam Harland scoring a consolation goal on the 90th.
