BOV Women's Division 1: Hibernians beat Gozo to maintain perfect record

bov-women-first-division-2013-2014Hibernians maintained their perfect run in the BOV Women’s First Division as they beat leaders Gozo FC 3-0 at the Kercem Ground on Sunday. The Paolites therefore join Gozo on top the First Division table despite having a game in hand.

Ylenia Carabott put Hibernians ahead on the 15th minute but fine saves by Gozo goalkeeper Dorienne Grech denied them more goals during the first half. Seven minutes in the second half, Martina Borg doubled the score. More saves by the Gozitan goalkeeper and the posts stopped Hibernians from increasing the lead before Nicole Borg scored a third goal on the 90th.

Mgarr United registered their third win as they beat Raiders (Luxol) 3-2 at the Mgarr Ground.

Playing in heavy winds and constant rainfall, Mgarr struggled much more than expected to get the three points. They managed to break the deadlock five minutes from the end of the first half through Alice Stanton. However Raiders were quick to level matters through Rodianne Zerafa, taking the lead thanks to a goal by Nora Agliano three minutes in the second half. Abigail Camilleri restored equilibrium on 63 minutes and five minutes later, Jasmine Vella Turner notched the winner.

Kirkop United collected their first three points thanks to a 4-1 win over Pembroke Athleta at the Pembroke Ground.

Kirkop held the initiative early in the game but it was only on the 21st minute that they had the first attempt at goal with a cross shot by Shona Zammit which was not held by the goalkeeper to end at the back of the net. Five minutes later, Jade Flask doubled the score, beating Baldacchino from close-range. Pembroke replied with a freekick by Sonia Schembri which created havoc inside the area with the ball finally being cleared off the goal line. After losing Lorna Cassar injured, Pembroke suffered the third goal on the 64th minute as Shona Zammit received the ball on the right, entered the area and beat Baldacchino with a diagonal shot. Athleta reduced the gap thanks to an Amy Abdilla direct freekick on the 77th minute but just before the final whistle, Shona Zammit scored a fourth goal for Kirkop to seal the issue.

bov-women-second-division-2013-2014Tarxien Rainbows maintained a perfect record in the BOV Women’s Second Division as they registered the fourth win in as many matches, beating Hamrun Spartans 4-1.

Early goals by Francesca Cauchi put the Rainbows two goals ahead. The Spartans reduced the gap eight minutes in the second half through Amanda Muscat. However Kristine Camilleri made it 3-1 on 78 minutes and three minutes later, Francesca Cauchi sealed the issue with a fourth goal.

In another match, Fgura United found no difficulty in beating Vittoriosa Stars 14-0 at the Zebbug Ground.
