Another uphill task for Under-21 side as Malta takes on Sweden

u21-in-sweden2013After disappointing in the last four UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifiers, Malta is in for another difficult game as the team led by Ray Farrugia faces Sweden at the Malmö New Stadium on Tuesday, kick-off at 18:00.

Following an encouraging defeat to Poland last June, the team suffered four heavy defeats to Turkey and Greece away from home, Greece and Poland at Ta’ Qali. Four games in which the team suffered eighteen goals and scored just one.

Sweden won their first game 3-1 against Poland and after a 2-2 draw with Turkey, last month they lost 2-0 to Poland and 5-1 to Greece in two matches away from home. Therefore they are eager to bounce back with a fine win.

For Malta, Jean Paul Farrugia is back after recovering from an injury which saw him miss the Poland match while Bjorn Kristensen and Christian Grech return after serving a one-match ban.

The Malta Under-21 coach is expected to field this formation: Jurgen Borg, Christian Grech, Zach Muscat, Daniel Zerafa, Sacha Borg, Bjorn Kristensen, Clyde Borg, Ryan Scicluna, Steve Pisani, Jurgen Pisani, Jean Paul Farrugia.

Temperature in Malmö is expected to be around 0 degrees.
