Futsal: Hibernians consolidate first place

futsal-gameHibernians registered two wins in five days to maintain their hundred percent record in the FXDD Futsal Premier Division.

In their first match, Hibernians routed Mosta 13-0 with four goals courtesy of captain Xavier Saliba, a hat-trick by David Bobokhidze, a brace by Melvin Borg and Levan Kobaidze and one goal each for Rui Miguel de Almeida and Cedric Sciberras.

Five days later, they continued their mission by beating Zabbar St. Patrick 8-2 with goals scored by David Bobokhidze (hat-trick), a brace for Levan Kobaidze and Daniel Brincat and Rui Miguel Ribeiro De Almeida. Nikolay and Rosen Filipov reduced the scoreline for Zabbar.

Balzan had managed a 10-1 victory against Luqa St. Andrew’s to register their third win of the season. A hat-trick by Emil Raducu, a brace by Jovica Milijic and Christian Wismayer and one goal each for Marc Areny Albert, Carlos Scicluna and Giancarlo Sammut completed their success. An incredible goal from Keith Mifsud reduced the arrears for Luqa St. Andrew’s who are yet to claim their first points of the season.

Qormi returned back on winning ways after defeating Melita 7-3. George Frendo scored a hat-trick for Qormi with other goals scored from a brace by Gary Zerafa, Allen Medati and Federico Santaguida. Melita scored through a brace by Michael Martin and Bojan Minic.

Luxol continued with their impressive showings in this division by seeing off Vittoriosa 11-1. Paul Bugeja scored a hat-trick while Eslam Khalifa, Florin Anton scored a brace each. William Barbosa, Tarek Ibrahim, Dean Gera and Liam Cachia completed the victory for Luxol. Kenneth Spiteri scored the consolation goal for Vittoriosa.

In other matches, Pembroke temporarily bounced in second place after beating San Gwann 6-1. This was the fourth win of the season for Pembroke who have a game more than their opponents.

After two consecutive defeats, Zurrieq gained their first three points of the season by defeating Hamrun Spartans 6-3. Tyron Borg was the main protagonist for Zurrieq, scoring the six goals. For Hamrun Spartans this was their third defeat in four matches.

In the FXDD First Division league, Sirens and Naxxar Lions gained a point each after a 5-5 scoreline. The match between Santa Lucia and Marsaskala ended in a 1-1 draw.

The biggest surprise came from Siggiewi who inflicted the first defeat on Gzira United, beating them 4-2. GianPaolo Azzopardi scored a brace for Siggiewi with other goals scored from James Borg and Glen Gauci. Alessio Restuccia scored two goals but was not enough to avoid his team’s first defeat.
