U*BET FA Trophy third round gets underway

FA TrophyThe third round of the U*BET FA Trophy gets underway on Sunday with four matches at two different venues.

Four First Division teams start as favourites to claim a place in the fourth round as they face opposition from Division 2 teams.

In the first match at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday, Gzira United take on BOV Second Division leaders Pembroke Athleta. The Maroons are currently eighth in Division 1 with eight points from eight matches. Pembroke, on the other hand, are still unbeaten in Division 2 with six wins and three draws from nine matches.

Gzira United eliminated another First Division club, Zurrieq, beating them 5-1 in the second round. Pembroke, on the other hand, defeated Ta’ Xbiex 6-0.

The winner would face the winner of the clash between Siggiewi and St. George’s.

In the second match, St. Andrews host San Gwann. San Gwann are currently fifth in Division 2 with sixteen points from nine matches while St. Andrews are joint-fourth in Division 1 with eleven points from six matches.

In the second round, St. Andrews defeated Third Division side Mgarr United 3-0 while San Gwann beat another Third Division side Marsaxlokk 4-0.

The winner would face the winner of the clash between Birkirkara and Vittoriosa Stars.

In the first match at the Sirens Stadium, Siggiewi take on St. George’s. The Saints are currently seventh in Division 1 with eight points from six matches while Siggiewi are third from bottom in Division 2 with five points from nine matches.

Siggiewi reached this stage after beating Third Division side Swieqi United 5-2 after extra-time while St. George’s eliminated Second Division side Zabbar St. Patrick 4-3.

The winner would face the winner of the clash between Pembroke Athleta and Gzira United.

Meanwhile BOV First Division leaders Pietà Hotspurs take on Mqabba in the other third round match on Sunday. The Hotspurs are still unbeaten in Division 1 with five wins and two draws in seven matches. Mqabba are currently fourth in Division 2 with 17 points from nine matches.

Pietà beat Hamrun Spartans 1-0 in a clash between two First Division sides while Mqabba beat Gozitans Xaghra United 1-0.

The winner would face the winner of the clash between Hibernians and Senglea Athletic.
