Four First Division clubs through to U*BET FA Trophy fourth round

pieta-mqabba131124First Division sides Pietà Hotspurs, St. Andrews, Gzira United and St. George’s reached the fourth round of the U*BET FA Trophy as they defeated opposition from four Second Division teams in four third round matches which were played on Sunday.

At the Luxol Stadium, Gzira United defeated BOV Second Division leaders Pembroke Athleta 1-0 thanks to a goal by Martin Kotyza on the 11th while St. Andrews beat San Gwann 2-1. Trayo Grozev put Luxol ahead on 9 minutes and Emiliano Lattes doubled the score on the 37th with Shawn Vella pulling one back on 79 minutes.

Meanwhile at the Sirens Stadium, St. George’s found no difficulty in beating Siggiewi 6-0 while BOV First Division leaders Pietà Hotspurs registered a narrow 1-0 win over Mqabba.

Mendy Rezak put the St. George’s ahead on the 15th, Vilson Causchi doubled the score on 34 minutes and four minutes later, Jonathan Bernardo Mariano made it 3-0. Mariano added another on 67 with Jurgen Gerada and Olsen Giordano increasing the lead with two goals in the final five minutes.

Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna scored the all-important goal for the Hotspurs seven minutes in the second half.

In the fourth round, Gzira United take on St. George’s, St. Andrews will meet either Birkirkara or Vittoriosa while Pietà face Hibernians or Senglea Athletic.
