Mosta close in on Championship Pool spot

BOV-Premier-LeagueMosta moved another step towards securing a place in the Championship Pool as they registered a fine 5-2 win over Vittoriosa Stars at the Hibernians Stadium.

The Blues were clearly a better side throughout the ninety minutes and apart from scoring five goals, they hit the posts on another three occasions.

For Vittoriosa, this was the fourth consecutive defeat, leaving them second from bottom in the BOV Premier League table.

Tyrone Farrugia and Oscar Guerrero were missing for Mosta and Vittoriosa respectively as both were suspended after receiving a fourth yellow card during the weekend.

Mosta had the first attempt at goal on the 11th minute with a Yuri Messias effort from the edge of the area hitting the foot of the post. Four minutes, Cristian Martins hit the woodwork off a freekick by Ricardinho. Vittoriosa replied with a shot from outside the area by Marcelo Pereira ending just wide.

The Blues took the lead on 27 minutes when off a cross from the right by Cristian Martins Fernades, Yuri de Jesus Messias tapped the ball home from close range.

On the 39th, Vittoriosa went close to equalising when consecutive shots by Siraj Arab were blocked by Omar Borg.

Ten minutes in the second half, Cristian Martins Fernandes was unlucky to hit the posts with a beautiful freekick.

Mosta doubled the score on 58 minutes when off a cross by Kane Farrugia, Michael Camilleri deflected the ball past Sean Cini in an attempt to clear the ball into safety.

On the 74th, Mosta scored the third goal thanks to Gianmarco Piccioni who slotted the ball past Cini following an assist by Manolito Micallef from the left.

Cristian Martins Fernandes scored from a direct freekick on the 78th minute to put the Blues 4-0 ahead.

A minute later, Gilbert Martin pulled one back for Vittoriosa, hitting home from close range following a cross from the right.

Yuri Messias de Oliveira made it 5-1 on the 90th after concluding a solo effort with a low shot which beat the Vittoriosa goalkeeper.

Three minutes in added time, Marcelo Pereira placed the ball at the back of the net following a cross from the left.
