Stripes target eighth consecutive win

mosta-bkara130915Champions Birkirkara target an eighth successive win on Sunday as they take on Mosta in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium.

The Stripes extended their positive run to nine matches after beating Sliema Wanderers 3-1 on Tuesday and a win over Mosta would ensure they regain sole leadership in the BOV Premier League table.

Mosta, however, chase precious points in the battle for a place in the Championship Pool and they currently enjoy a four-point lead on sixth-placed Floriana and Naxxar Lions. In their last two outings, they scored nine in a 4-0 win over Rabat and a 5-2 win over Vittoriosa Stars.

For Mosta, Mark Brincat is suspended while Alex Cini is injured but Tyrone Farrugia returns after serving a one-match ban. Matheus Bissi da Silva is the only injured player for Birkirkara.

In the first round, Birkirkara defeated Mosta 3-1.

Meanwhile in the second match, buoyed by their 2-1 win over Hibernians, Valletta target another three points as they take on Qormi.

The Citizens won seven of the last eight matches. Qormi, on the other hand, moved eighth after two wins in their last two outings, beating Tarxien and Naxxar.

Valletta will be without the injured Ian Azzopardi, Hamza Barry and Lateef Elford-Alliyu while Roderick Bajada and Jorge Pereira da Silva are missing for Qormi.

In the first round, Valletta defeated Qormi 1-0.
