Xewkija, SKVW close in on Nadur as Youngsters succumb to first defeat

Gozo-Football-AssociationSK Victoria Wanderers inflicted the first defeat on Nadur Youngsters and together with Xewkija Tigers move to just one point behind the leaders.

In the weekend’s big match on Sunday, the Wanderers took the lead after just five minutes through Ejofor Nkwocha but on the half hour, Aliou Traore levelled matters. Traore was sent off on 56 minutes and the Wanderers scored twice in the final eleven minutes through Ejofor Nkwocha and Joseph Vella to take home the three points.

Xewkija Tigers beat Munxar Falcons 5-0 on Saturday. Gilbert Agius put the Tigers ahead in added time. Christian Bugeja doubled the score three minutes in the second half and two goals by Mark Camilleri on the 60th and 65th increased the lead to 4-0. Gennaro Hili scored the fifth goal on 68 minutes.

Kercem Ajax beat Victoria Hotspurs 3-1 to move fourth. Kercem took the lead on 24 minutes thanks to John Camilleri. Saturday Nanapere equalised three minutes later but John Camilleri scored again on 34 minutes. Three minutes later, Malcolm Vella made it 3-1.

Xaghra United suffered the ninth defeat in nine matches as they lost 0-3 to Oratory Youths. Antoine Camilleri put them ahead on 11 minutes and although Johann Attard was sent off just before the end of the first half, Shaun Attard converted a penalty on the 52nd, adding a third one one minute from time.
