Wanderers return to winning ways

BOV-Premier-LeagueAfter being held in three consecutive draws, Sliema Wanderers returned to winning ways as they came back from one goal down to beat Hibernians 3-1.

For the Paolites, this was yet another disappointing result as this was the third defeat in four matches. To make matters worse they also had two players sent off.

The Wanderers had the full squad at their disposal. Hibernians, on the other hand, lacked Andrew Cohen.

Mario Muscat performed a good save into a corner in Trevor Cilia on the 17th minute as the Wanderers held the initiative in the early stages.

However against the run of play, Hibernians took the lead when in a swift counter-attack, Jean Paul Farrugia released Obinna Obiefule who rounded the goalkeeper before placing the ball at the back of the net.

Stanley Ohawuchi missed an excellent opportunity as he failed to control an inviting cross by Bello-Osagie from the right four minutes in the second half.

The Wanderers were awarded a penalty on the 57th after Ryan Camilleri brought John Mintoff down inside the area. From the penalty spot, Admir Vladavic converted to level matters.

Six minutes later, Sliema forged ahead when Mark Scerri released Stanley Ohawuchi inside the area and the latter beat Muscat with an angled shot from the right.

Fifteen minutes from time, the Paolites were reduced to ten men after having Bjorn Kristensen sent off. A minute later, Clayton Failla was also sent off after receiving two yellow cards in less than a minute for harsh protests.

On the 90th, Clifford Gatt Baldacchino was sent off for Sliema after picking a second yellow card.

However five minutes in added time, the Wanderers added another goal as Admir Vladavic concluded a good run on the left with a powerful shot which was blocked by Bonello and off the rebound, Stanley Ohawuchi placed the ball at the back of the net.
