Lija Athletic returned to winning ways as a brace by Kiril Aleksandrov gave them a 2-0 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s in a match from the BOV First Division on Sunday.

Lija are currently third, four points behind leaders Zebbug Rangers and two behind Pietà Hotspurs.

In another match, Hamrun Spartans and Zejtun Corinthians shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Mariano Cornago San Pedro put the Spartans ahead but Kenneth Abela levelled matters for the Corinthians.

Zebbug lead the way with 29 points, followed by Pietà on 27, Lija 25, Melita 22, St. George’s 20, Gudja 18, Gzira 17, St. Andrews 16, Birzebbuga 15, Zejtun 14, Zurrieq 9, Msida 8 and Hamrun 3.
