Among the other European countries, Malta is still ranked 49th. Lying just ahead of Malta are Luxembourg (120, up 2), Cyprus (122, up 3) and Kazakhstan (128) while Liechtenstein (150, up 6), Faroe Islands (172, down 2), Andorra (198) and San Marino (207) are behind Malta.
Malta’s next commitment is a friendly match against Albania in Tirana on March 5. Albania is ranked 55th.
The EURO 2016 qualifiers will kick-off in September with the draws being held on February 23 in Nice.
Meanwhile Spain, Germany and Argentina retained first, second and third places respectively, while Switzerland (6th, up 2) leapfrogged Uruguay (7th, down 1) and Italy (8th, down 1).
Portugal (4th, up 1) swapped spots with Colombia (5th, down 1) and Brazil (9th, up 1) did the same with the Netherlands (10th, down 1).
