Qormi, Rabat seek to end disappointing run with a win

rabat-qormi140104Qormi and Rabat Ajax will be all out to claim maximum points on Tuesday as the two teams cross swords in one of the two BOV Premier League Relegation Pool matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Bottom-placed Rabat Ajax failed to win any games in the past fifteen matches while Qormi have gone nine matches without a win. Four points separate the two teams with Qormi lying on the eight-point mark and Rabat on four. Therefore a win for Karel Zeman’s side would put them seven points ahead and almost seal the Magpies’ faith.

Qormi are coming from a 3-2 defeat to Floriana while Rabat were held in a 1-1 draw by Naxxar. For this game, Rabat welcome back David Azzopardi, Dylan Falzon, Jonathan Bajada and Diego Carrillo while Owen Bugeja, Roderick Sammut and Giorgio Gianola return for Qormi after serving a one-match ban. However Qormi goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia is ruled out injured and Rabat could not count on Zachary Tanti, Dani Pelaez, Aidan Azzopardi and Adam Smeir.

The two first-phase clashes ended in goalless draws.

Meanwhile in the other match, Floriana take on Vittoriosa Stars, seeking another win after beating Qormi in their first Relegation Pool outing. The Greens lie four points ahead of the Stars and would move temporarily at the top of the Relegation Pool should they win on Tuesday.

However Vittoriosa will be all out to get the three points after sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Tarxien during the weekend.

Siraj Arab is ruled out for Vittoriosa as he is recovering from an injury. Floriana welcome back Emmanuel Ibok Edet and Joseph Borg.

In the first phase, Floriana defeated Vittoriosa twice – 2-1 and 3-1
