Sirens extended their unbeaten record in the BOV Third Division to twenty-one matches as they defeated Qrendi 1-0 in one of the six matches in programme on Saturday.

Apart from Sirens who have already secured promotion to the Second Division, Swieqi United are favourites to become the second team to win promotion as they returned to winning ways defeating Luqa St. Andrew’s 2-0. Swieqi lie seven points behind the leaders and nine ahead of third-placed Ghaxaq.

Ghaxaq beat Marsaxlokk 1-0 to move two points ahead of Attard who were held in a goalless draw by Mtarfa and four ahead of Xghajra Tornados who lost 1-2 to Mgarr United. Mgarr therefore maintain alive hopes of securing promotion. Four teams will be promoted at the end of this season.

In another match, Kalkara and Ta’ Xbiex shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Sirens lead the way with 57 points, followed by Swieqi on 50, Ghaxaq 41, Attard 39, Xghajra 37, Mgarr 34, Santa Lucia 31, Mtarfa 29, Sta. Venera 26, Luqa 25, Qrendi 20, Ta’ Xbiex 14, Kalkara 4 and Marsaxlokk 2.
