Joseph Mbong eligible to play for Malta Under-17

MFAHibernians striker Joseph Mbong will be eligible to play for the Malta Under-17 side in next May’s UEFA Under-17 Championship finals which will be held in Malta after being granted Maltese citizenship.

Mbong, son of the former Hibernians midfielder Essien Mbong, has been living in Malta for around fifteen years but would have granted Maltese citizenship in two years’ time unless his application was put on the fast-track.

The Malta Football Association had the government’s support in this matter and his application was finally approved.
