Xewkija Tigers declared champions

Gozo-Football-AssociationXewkija Tigers were declared champions in Gozo after beating rivals Nadur Youngsters 5-2 on Sunday. A win which puts Raymond Vella’s side eight points ahead of SK Victoria Wanderers and eleven ahead of Nadur.

Brandon Said put Nadur ahead on the 32nd minute but Ferdinando Apap levelled matters five minutes later. One minute in the second half, Chris Camilleri made it 2-1 for Xewkija but Elton Alexandre da Silva restored equilibrium seven minutes later. However a brace by Dene Shields on 71 and 79 minutes, coupled with the dismissal of Frankie Camilleri for the Youngsters left no doubt which way the three points were going with Gilbert Agius sealing the issue with a fifth goal six minutes from time.

This was the sixth championship for Xewkija.

In a match from the Relegation Pool, Kercem Ajax defeated Xaghra United 4-1. Randall Refalo put Xaghra ahead on the 20th but a hat-trick by Andrew Mizzi on 37, 44 and 69 minutes turned the score in Kercem’s favour. Keith Bonello made it 4-1 on 71 minutes.

In the Melita Second Division, Ghajnsielem maintained the challenge for promotion as they beat Zebbug Rovers 6-1 thanks to goals by Milan Markovic (3), Joseph Attard, Damon Hili and David Debattista. Pedro Adame Calderon scored a consolation goal for Zebbug.

Qala Saints beat Gharb Rangers 3-1 in another match. Alan Cini put Qala ahead but Michael Matthias Uzor levelled matters. However another goal by Cini and another by Christoph Caruana gave Qala the three points.
