Floriana FC have appointed Giovanni Tedesco as their new coach following the dismissal of Ian Dawes.

A former player of Reggina, Fiorentina, Foggia, Salernitana, Perugia, Genoa and Palermo, Tedesco started his coaching career with the Palermo youth sector before moving to Foligno in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. However he was sacked a few months later after losing four in six matches.

Dawes had joined Floriana this summer, taking over from Iain Brunskill. After a rather poor start, the Greens won five out of six matches to move fifth and seemed to be on track to secure a place in the Championship Pool. However five consecutive defeats and a draw with Qormi meant that Floriana had to play in the Relegation Pool.

Floriana started the second phase in the second place of the Relegation Pool but after two wins in their first two matches, Floriana won just one of the next five matches.

Giovanni Tedesco will be leading Floriana in a crucial clash with Tarxien on Saturday.
