Swieqi United FC celebrate five years of success

swieqi-united-fcBack in 2009, two University students remarked that Swieqi did not have a football club that represented the locality. After a couple of meetings, Swieqi United F.C was born on April 14th 2009 and a quick application was made to the Malta Football Association (MFA) in order to have the club accredited with the association. A careful and calculated search for committee members and players followed which eventually led to the club ending 8th of ten teams in its maiden season.

Fast forward five years, and in 2014 the club finds itself flying high! The Seniors Team managed to obtain a first ever historic promotion to the MFA Second Division. The Futsal Team, which was established in 2012, is battling against some of Malta’s elite futsal teams in the Maltese Futsal Premier League. Season 2013-2014 was also the maiden season for the Swieqi United FC U19s who managed to obtain some incredible results and ended the season in fourth place, few points shy of promotion. SUFC also launched its Youth Academy and will be competing in the U17 league next season. Last but not least, in collaboration with the MFA, SUFC has opened its own 7-a side pitch in Pembroke.

As the club celebrates its fifth year anniversary, we look back at some amazing times and forward to a brighter future. There are many exciting projects the club will be embarking on soon and we are confident that our young club will be raising the benchmark on and off the pitch.

We take this opportunity to thank each and every person who in some way or another were part of the success that we have achieved over these past five years – on behalf of SUFC we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
