Sliema, Mosta in direct clash for fourth place

mosta-sliema140104Sliema Wanderers take on Mosta on Monday in a direct clash for fourth place which could possibly mean a place in the UEFA Europa League this summer.

With two games to go for the end of the season, Mosta lie one point ahead of the Wanderers.

Sliema lost five of the last six matches, collecting the only point in a draw with Mosta. Mosta, on the other hand, are coming from two consecutive defeats after collecting six points from the previous four matches. However both suffered heavy defeats in their last outing as Sliema lost 0-6 to Birkirkara while Mosta suffered a 0-5 defeat to Valletta.

Wanderers coach Alfonso Greco welcomes back Paltemio Barbetti, Clifford Gatt Baldacchino, Beppe Muscat and Admir Vladavic. Mosta, on the other hand, will be without the suspended Bojan Kaljevic.

Mosta defeated Sliema 3-2 in the first round but the other two clashes ended in 1-1 draws.

Meanwhile in the other match, Valletta will be all out to claim the three points as they take on Balzan, knowing that a win would make sure next Friday’s direct clash with leaders Birkirkara will determine the championship.

The Citizens lie five points behind the Stripes and are coming from an unbeaten run of fourteen matches. Balzan, on the other hand, bounced back from a series of defeats with a narrow win over Sliema and a 4-4 draw with Hibernians in their last two outings.

Roderick Briffa is suspended for Valletta while Fabio Vignaroli and Luke Sciberras are ruled out for Balzan.

Following a 1-1 draw in the first round, Valletta beat Balzan 1-0 and 3-1 in the other rounds.
