Mosta, Sliema target fourth place

sliema-hibs131019Mosta and Sliema Wanderers will be all out for the three points on Thursday as they take on Balzan and Hibernians respectively in their bid to secure the fourth place which could mean a place in the UEFA Europa League this summer.

In a direct clash between the two on Monday, Mosta had a goal disallowed and a player sent off in stoppage time with the Wanderers having a penalty saved by goalkeeper Omar Borg as the two teams shared the spoils in a goalless draw which leaves Mosta one point ahead. Therefore a win could not be enough for Sliema, should Mosta beat Balzan. However the Wanderers could still qualify for the UEFA Europa League through the U*BET FA Trophy.

Mosta won just one game from the last eight matches, earning another four points in draws. Sliema, on the other hand, lost five of the last seven matches, collecting just two points in two draws.

Against Balzan, Mosta won 3-1 and 4-2 in the first and third rounds with the second round clash ending in a 2-0 win for Balzan. Sliema, on the other hand, drew 2-2 with Hibernians in the first round, won 3-1 in the second but lost 1-3 in the third.

The Paolites will be lacking the suspended Igor Radusinovic, Obinna Obiefule and Edison Luis dos Santos. Balzan could not count on the suspended Fabio Vignaroli and Pedro dos Santos Calcado. Mosta and Sliema, on the other hand, have Jonas Rodriguez Ekani and Matias Muchardi respectively serving a suspension.

Floriana vs Rabat A., kick-off 18:00 at Centenary Stadium
Qormi vs Tarxien R., kick-off 20:15 at Centenary Stadium

With nothing in particular at stake, the two Relegation Pool clashes promise to provide several goals in a typical end-of-the-season fashion.

Floriana could make a poker of wins over Rabat after beating them 4-0, 3-2 and 5-0 in the previous rounds. Rabat, on the other hand, hope to end the season on a positive note after going six months without a win.

Qormi beat Tarxien 6-2 and 3-0 in the first two rounds but the Rainbows registered a 4-0 win in the third round.
