UEFA Under-17 Championship: Germany, Switzerland share spoils in draw

UEFA-Under-17-Malta2014-logoGermany and Switzerland shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in a match from Group B of the UEFA Under-17 Championship finals at the Gozo Stadium.

Germany could have secured the three points late in the game but Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel saved a penalty.

After a goalless first half, the Germans took the lead eighteen minutes in the second half when Finn Porath served Max Besuschkow who released Bejamin Heinrichs who slotted the ball home past goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Switzerland however levelled matters when substitute Boris Babic gained the ball off an erratic clearance and placed the ball at the back of the net from close range.

Five minutes from time, Remo Arnold was sent off for Switzerland and Germany were awarded a penalty. However Arianit Ferati’s effort from the penalty spot was neutralised by Kobel for ten-man Switzerland to earn a point.

On Monday, Switzerland take on Portugal at the Hibernians Stadium at 11:00 while Germany face Scotland at the Hibernians Stadium at 18:00.
