Gilbert Agius new Valletta FC coach

valletta-champions2010-11Valletta have appointed Gilbert Agius as their new coach. He replaces Dutch coach Andre Paus who moved to Cyprus to lead Anorthosis Famagusta.

After making his debut for the Citizens in season 1990/91, he played for Valletta interruptedly except for a short spell with Pisa in Italy. He quit his playing career in season 2012/13 but earlier this season, came out of retirement to play for Xewkija Tigers in Gozo with whom he won the First Division title in Gozo.

Since summer 2012, Agius was assistant coach to Mark Miller until last January and was also the coach of the Valletta Under-19 side.

Throughout his career as a player with Valletta, he won all major honours with the club and was voted Footballer of the Year in seasons 1996/97, 2000/01 and 2006/07.

Andre Paus had taken over as Valletta head-coach in January leading them to the double – the BOV Premier League championship and the U*BET FA Trophy. Mark Miller, who acted assistant coach until the end of the season.
