Narrow defeat for Sliema Wanderers in Hungary

UEFA-Europa-LeagueSliema Wanderers were eliminated from the UEFA Europa League after losing 2-1 to Ferencvaros in the second leg of the first qualifying round at the Ferenc Puskas Stadion in Budapest. Fradi therefore move on to the next stage with a 3-2 aggregate score where they will be meeting HNK Rijeka of Croatia.

With no players ruled out injured or suspended, Sliema coach Alfonso Greco maintained the faith in the same players which performed well in the first leg, going close to claiming victory at Ta’ Qali.

Ronald Ugrai converted a penalty after just fourteen minutes. Attila Busai doubled the score on 56 minutes but on the hour, Filippo Andrea Scozzese pulled one back for Sliema. The Blues were reduced to ten men three minutes in added time as Paltemio Barbetti picked a second yellow card and was therefore sent off.
