First Division side Vittoriosa Stars will be replacing Tarxien Rainbows in The Convenience Shop Malta Summer Cup 2014, which kicks off on Sunday 20th July.
In a statement, the organisers JPL Sportevents said that Tarxien Rainbows withdrew from the tournament over financial dispute regarding the participation fee. Their place was snapped up by Vittoriosa Stars, who immediately accepted the invitation to form part of the Malta Summer Cup.
“JPL Sportevents believe that all teams are to be treated equally and had no choice but to withdraw Tarxien’s participation from the said tournament. Due to the fact that four teams from the BOV Premier League are participating or have participated in the qualification matches for the European cups, JPL Sportevents invited Vittoriosa Stars, who finished in the eleventh place in the table last season, to participate.”
